Trance

Known for his diverse and suspenseful themes such as Slumdog Millionaire (2008) and 127 Hours (2010), the latest feature by Oscar winning filmmaker Danny Boyle is an immersive, entangled, psychological intrigue.

In this well staged, high tension opening involving a Goya painting heist, fine arts auctioneer Simon (James McAvoy) is hit on the head leaving him unable to recall where he hid the priceless painting. Unresponsive to coercion and violence, art thief Franck (Vincent Cassel) sends Simon to hypnotherapist Dr. Elizabeth Lamb (Rosario Dawson) to help him piece things together.

Through numerous turns and twists Boyle effectively keeps the audience puzzled as the mystery and suspense rapidly deepens.

Compelling performances, Jon Harris' exceptional editing, and Rick Smith' rhythmic soundtrack maintain the feature's energy pulsating while drawing the audience into this original, engaging and thought provoking cinematic artistry.
