Ten years since his last movie, director Walter Hill brings to the big screen Bullet to the Head, based on the French graphic novel Du Plomb Dans La Tete by Alexis Nolent, better known as Matz.
In
Alessandro Camon's 91 minute screen adaptation, an unlikely
partnership is formed between New Orleans hitman Jimmy Bobo
(Sylvester Stallone) and Washington cop Taylor Kwon (Sung Kang) while
investigating the killers of their respective partners, Luis
Blanchard (Jon Seda), and Hank Greely (Holt McCallany).
With
elements of drama, and humor the action
moves quickly into flying punches, violent explosions, and gunshots.
One of the best segment is the axe battle scene at the Energy Plant
between Jimmy and the ruthless 'shark' Keegan (Jason Momoa),
beautifully choreographed by JJ Perry and Noon Orsatti, and captured
by Lloyd Ahern's camera work.
Well
casted are tattoo artist Lisa Bonomo (Sarah Shahi), the ruthless
local real estate mogul Robert Nkomo Morel (Adewale
Akinnuoye-Agbaje). Making a cameo appearance is Christian Slater as
Marcus Baptiste.
Stallone's
and Momoa's charisma, along with Kang's contrasting character sustain
the enjoyment of this fast pace, nostalgic cinematic legacy.
